You haven't lived until you've been owned by a pug! We're not
sure who came up with that phrase, but it's true.
Pugs
are wonderfully charming and even-tempered. As a breed, they are
known for being playful, outgoing and dignified.
O'
My Heart has been raising quality Pugs for three generations and
we take great pride in our quality.
We
have fat, wrinkled little beauties to choose from in fawn, apricot,
and black colors. These puppies make exceptional family pets and
we take great pride in their quality.

The
pug is believed to have originated in China mentioned by Confucius
as early as 515 B.C. Much later the small breed dog migrated to
Europe during early trade relations between China and western
world. Pugs are known to have been shown in America as early as
1879 and today is one of most-loved breeds anywhere. You may learn
much more about the history of the Pug in a book entitled The
Pug, by Susan Graham Weall. You can also learn more about
the Pug on our Info and Links page.

It's
important to learn about Pugs as a breed and a pet before making
the decision to adopt these wonderful dogs. Here are some basic
facts to understand, and of course we are here to answer any questions
you may have, feel free to contact us.
- Pugs
are a 12 to 15 year commitment - are you ready for a pug?
- Pugs
come in various shades of black or fawn including apricot
and silver shades of fawn and feature large, deep wrinkles
and short, blunt-nosed face. We call it "cute."
- As
an adult the pug will be square porportioned and weigh from
14 to 18 pounds average.
- Pugs
are true companion dogs living to love and be loved; however
they require attention to survive and should never be left
alone for extended periods of time.
- Pugs
are smart and love to play and go for walks, but watch them
very carefully, they just don't understand cars can hurt them.
- Pugs
love to eat, but they can eat too much, watch the amount of
food given to them to prevent a fat pug!
- Almost
all dogs shed. Pugs shed! They are a short-haired breed, with
lots of short hairs, but with regular and proper grooming
this generally isn't a real problem.
- It's
important to give them regular excercise, but pugs can quickly
overheat on hot days. They also don't tolerate cold very well.
